so bored at work that i'll do some memes

how bored am i? i'm actually going to post in my LIVEJOURNAL. what. I am stealing this one from andy.

1. What movie have you seen the most times in the theater? How many times?
um...right now it's a tie between Knocked Up and The Dark Knight. and i've seen both twice. i don't really like going to the theater that much.

2. What was the last movie you walked out of in the theater?
Battlefield Earth. i ended up walking out of that and into Mission Impossible 2. i'm not sure that was a good trade, to be honest. to be fair, we had bought tickets to see if Battlefield Earth could possibly be as bad as they were saying....it was.

3. What is the first movie you remember seeing in a theater?
Song of the South. wtf, right? i think it was re-released or something.

4. What is your favorite movie soundtrack?
either Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story or Cruel Intentions.

5. Have you ever dressed up as a movie character for Halloween? If so, who?
hells yes. batman and raoul duke from Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. i was in like, second grade when i was batman, though.

6. What was the first R-rated movie you ever saw? Were you allowed or did you sneak?
god. this is so lame. Pretty Woman. i saw it at a friend's house, so i guess i snuck it.

7. Star Wars (orig. trilogy) or Lord of the Rings?
um...i guess Star Wars. but whatever.

8. Pacino or De Niro?
De Niro. for asking if a man could milk him (i like Meet the Parents. SHUT UP.).

9. Titanic...did it suck or was it great?
it was pretty well made. it creeped me out though.

10. What's your take on Cassavetes?
that's a great last name.

11. Favorite John Hughes character?
Ferris Bueller.

12. which movie gives you a boner (or makes you tingle)?
i don't know. porn? something with titties? Fast Times at Ridgemont High, i guess.

13. which movie always makes you cry like the big puss you are?
Monsters, Inc. and Rent. when i watch those, i cry like a big dumb homo (30 Rock. lulz).

14. What's the furthest you've ever gotten in a movie theater? (i.e, second base...)
holding hands. because i'm busy WATCHING THE MOVIE.

15. Speaking of sports metaphors, what's your favorite sports movie?
The Bad News Bears (the original). and i hate baseball. He Got Game is an honorable mention because ray allen's character is named jesus shuttlesworth, and that's awesome.

16. Favorite
(a)... teen movie?
Mean Girls.

(b)...Quentin Tarantino movie?
Kill Bill.

(c)...Bill Murray movie?
Ghostbusters.

(d)...romantic comedy?
Garden State (i haven't gotten the memo on hating zach braff, so i still like this movie).

(e)...gangster movie?
The Godfather.

(f)...horror movie?
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. because it could happen (seriously, if there's a family of cannibalistic weirdos, i could see it happening in texas.).

(g)...made for TV movie?
The Shining (and i think i'm the only one who liked the tv movie).

(h)...director?
speilberg.

(i)...drug movie?
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas or Harold and Kumar.

17. which movie have you seen already but will never, ever, ever watch again?
Schindler's List.

18. which movie are you embarrassed to really like?
i'm more of a terrible tv lover (Desperate Housewives represent), but i guess Escape to Witch Mountain.

19. which movie should be remade asap?
A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy's Revenge. because it is so bad that a remake could only help.

20. What the F happened to (insert answer)? He used to be so damn funny!
bill murray.

21. For the love of everything that's sacred, please someone stop (insert answer) from making another movie!
dreamworks pdi.

22. which movie do all your friends love but you think is whatevs?
Requiem for a Dream.

23. which movie do you love but all your friends think is whatevs?
Insomnia.

24. If you could hump/date/marry any movie character, who would it be?
hump: jessica simpson from The Dukes of Hazzard. not my type at all, but it's just humping.
date: natalie portman from Garden State. every dork's dream, really.
marry: rosario dawson from Clerks 2.

25. Best movie ever?
The Godfather is the best movie.

26. Book you wish would be made into a movie, and who would direct it?
The Eye of the World by robert jordan. speilberg, duh.
or
A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius by dave eggers. directed by spike jonze, from an adapted script by charlie kauffman (unfilmable book my ass, those two could make it work).

Wow.

It's been a very eventful month. So much has happened, and I'm not really sure where to begin.

I graduated, finally. The long road that has been my college experience has ended, at least for now. I will eventually have a master's (and maybe even a Ph. D.) but right now, I'm done with the U.

I got a job. I'm going to be teaching/developing a Pre-K program at Pawnee Elementary School (part of Omaha Public Schools). So exciting (I get to set up my room exactly as I want it), so scary (JESUS GOD I AM FREAKED). I need to take a $155 test (thanks No Child Left Behind) and sign my contract and I'm set.

I moved. My roommate committed suicide two weeks ago. I didn't realize how much he meant to me until he was gone. He was a great friend that I miss every day.

Well...on that note, I suddenly don't feel like typing anymore.

File under: awesomeness, realizations, contentedness

So...what a week. Honestly, I've just had one of the best weeks in recent memory. I felt truly appreciated and wanted by friends and I had fun every single day. Not everything was fixed (in fact, I'm not sure that anything has been fixed) but I had a great week.

So...the situation I posted about before has not been rectified. I did call her and give her a piece of my mind (albeit, I wasn't as harsh or open as I needed/wanted to be) but...she hasn't made the effort to mend the breach. She knows (basically) how I feel (although, when I called her I had had a few drinks and I don't really remember the conversation very well). Right now...I've decided to leave it up to her. I'm tired of being made to feel like an unimportant person. I'm not unimportant. In fact, quite a few people think I'm pretty kickass. So...I guess I'm just not going to concern myself with her right now. It's not quite what I wanted...but I feel better about it.

In other news:

Katy and I had a blast on Friday. Even if Crystal's date was stupid.

X-Men 3 wasn't horrible...but I really think it could have been SOO much better.

The Da Vinci Code was what I expected. Exactly like the book. Overlong.

I'm replaying Final Fantasy 7. Good god, what a sweet game.

I start my summer class tomorrow. Art methods, baby. Whatever.

And...I'm tired and done.

Oh effing hell...

What a shitty day. I swear, I'm so sick of people not delivering on what they say they will do, I could scream.

Although you don't read this anyway, here's what I would like to say to you:

It kills me that you can't even have the decency to call me back when you say you will.

I realize that there isn't anything between us romantically...it's just really beginning to seem to me that there isn't anything between us, period. Considering that I've thought of you as one of my closest friends for quite a while, this hurts.

Look, I know that you haven't had the easiest year. I realize that there is always some type of drama occurring in your life, and that sometimes I don't help that out much. On the other hand, it makes me very nearly cry when I realize that I'm never a priority for you. It seems like I don't rate enough to be included in your life, period. If this is the case...then I'd rather us not continue this charade of us being friends. Because it's not helping anything.

I understand that I helped this situation get to where it is. I should have been a stronger person that night when we crossed a boundary. Unfortunately, I wasn't. It's hard to be when something is happening that you've wanted for quite a while.

Yes, I'd like more out of this relationship than just friendship. You know this.

Frankly, at this point, I'd settle to just be recognized.

(ok, and now I'm ending the emo transmission)

2005, WHAT

So...I realized that I didn't actually digest enough "new" media this year to do any type of retrospective on entertainment. I saw few movies, discovered fewer CDs, and didn't enjoy videogames as much as usual.

Therefore! I think I will do a list of things that tripped my trigger. Basically, if it is on this list, I liked it a lot this year. It didn't have to "come out" this year. Thanks in advance for me pushing my taste toward you.

WITHOUT FURTHER ADO....THINGS THAT ROCKED MY FACE (2005!)

1. V for Vendetta I saw the trailer for the movie earlier this year, and thought it looked weird. I found out it was actually a comic, so yesterday I tracked down a copy of the trade paperback and read it. WOW. I loved the hell out of it and can't wait for the movie. Also, I must now track down other comics by Alan Moore (Yes, yes, I know...I'm slow!)

2. TV shows on DVD. Yeah, that's a bit broad, but I loved TV on DVD this year. Lost, Desperate Housewives, South Park, Aqua Teen Hunger Force, Family Guy, Scrubs, Jackass, The Muppet Show, Thundercats....I watched soooo much TV on DVD that I didn't really miss cable at all (except I would have liked to watch more college football).

3. Bars, getting drunk at bars, bar friends. I hadn't really been rocking the bar scene until about July. Now I love going out to bars, but I'm still too much of a weakling to do it more than one night a week.

4. Xbox 360. I was almost ready to be done with videogames (except for NCAA Football 2006) but then I got that beast and I've been sucked back in. Call of Duty 2, Perfect Dark, Kameo...I'm in love. Now, DOA 4 needs to hit!

5. Trapped in the Closet. FUNNIEST THING EVER. Really. Holy crap, R. Kelly is crazy (and, apparently thinks midgets are the weirdest things ever).

So..that's my list. Nice, short, and fun. I dug a few movies and all, but honestly, haven't been rocked by much musically or film wise. SOOOOOoo...that's it for this update.

SURVEYS OMG

Stealing this from drewmg mostly because I don't want to type my final paper. Thank god this semester is almost over.

WHAT DID YOU DO IN 2005 THAT YOU'D NEVER DONE BEFORE?
Lived in an apartment and paid my own rent.

2. DID YOU KEEP YOUR NEW YEARS' RESOLUTIONS, AND WILL YOU MAKE MORE FOR NEXT YEAR?
I don't remember making any, to be honest. I'll try to think up some this time.

3. DID ANYONE CLOSE TO YOU GIVE BIRTH?
Val at work. Not sure if that's close, but I work with her everyday, in the same room, dealing with the same ridiculous children.

4. DID ANYONE CLOSE TO YOU DIE?
Thankfully, no.

5. WHAT COUNTRIES DID YOU VISIT?
None.

6. WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE TO HAVE IN 2006 THAT YOU LACKED IN 2005?
A decent roommate situation. Right now I'm halfway there!

7. WHAT DATES FROM 2005 WILL REMAIN ETCHED UPON YOUR MEMORY AND WHY?
January 20 - Finally stopped talking to Tanishia
April 14 - Started working at The Ivy League
May 19 - Found out I passed Lit Block
July ?? - Best. Hookup. Ever.
October 15 - Allison's wedding. What a blast.

8. WHAT WAS YOUR BIGGEST ACHIEVEMENT OF THE YEAR?
Undecided as of right now.

9. WHAT WAS YOUR BIGGEST FAILURE?
Being a doormat for far too many people. Not keeping closer connections with truly great friends.

10. DID YOU SUFFER ILLNESS OR INJURY?
I got pretty sick last month, but nothing ridiculous.

11. WHAT WAS THE BEST THING YOU BOUGHT?
Xbox 360. For sure.

12. WHOSE BEHAVIOUR MERITED CELEBRATION?
Jenna, for realizing that she was far more worthwhile than the way she was being treated by her ex.
Jason, for being far stronger than I could ever be.
Genna, for always cheering me up.
Crystal, for quickly becoming a great friend.

13. WHOSE BEHAVIOUR MADE YOU APPALLED AND DEPRESSED?
Sarah, for far too many things to count.

14. WHERE DID MOST OF YOUR MONEY GO?
Videogames and movies. A more meta answer would be "me."

15. WHAT DID YOU GET REALLY, REALLY, REALLY EXCITED ABOUT?
The Xbox 360 launch. Pomeroy concerts.

16. WHAT SONG WILL ALWAYS REMIND YOU OF 2005?
Gold Digger by Kanye West

17. COMPARED TO THIS TIME LAST YEAR ARE YOU:
a) Happier or sadder? Happier
b) Thinner or fatter? About the same
c) Richer or poorer? A tad richer, but let's not kid ourselves....I'm broke.

18. WHAT DO YOU WISH YOU'D DONE MORE OF?
Drawing. Hanging out with Kristine, Santiago.

19. WHAT DO YOU WISH YOU'D DONE LESS OF?
Worry about how I may or may not have offended my roommate.

20. HOW WILL YOU BE SPENDING CHRISTMAS?
I'll be going to my Grandmother's...which is fun for the family time, but lame as the location offers absolutely nothing to do besides playing cards.

21. DID YOU FALL IN LOVE IN 2005?
Possibly.

22. HOW MANY ONE-NIGHT STANDS?
Two.

23. WHAT WAS YOUR FAVOURITE TV PROGRAM?
Lost or Desperate Housewives. Shows that I had enjoyed on TV, but missed far too many episodes (I'm horrid at remembering to watch TV) so their DVDs were welcomed. Family Guy and Aqua Teen Hunger Force also dominated the year.

24. DO YOU HATE ANYONE NOW THAT YOU DIDN'T HATE LAST YEAR?
Not really. The hate list stays fairly stationary, as actually putting the effort into hating someone usually gives them far more credit than they are worth.

25. WHAT WAS THE BEST BOOK YOU READ?
The "A Song of Ice and Fire" series by George R. R. Martin. The other Klosterman books I hadn't read. Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince.

26. WHAT WAS YOUR GREATEST MUSICAL DISCOVERY?
Trapped in the Closet, baby! :D Seriously though...not too many discoveries were made this year for myself. A bland year for new music, at least on my Jukebox.

27. WHAT DID YOU WANT AND GET?
Xbox 360. Thundercats on DVD.

28. WHAT DID YOU WANT AND NOT GET?
A fun living experience in my apartment (again, halfway there)

29. WHAT WAS YOUR FAVOURITE FILM OF THE YEAR?
Sin City or Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. I didn't make it to too many movies this year.

30. WHAT DID YOU DO ON YOUR BIRTHDAY, AND HOW OLD WERE YOU?
Honestly, nothing. I had to work the next day. The weekend was good though.

31. WHAT ONE THING WOULD HAVE MADE YOUR YEAR IMMEASURABLY MORE SATISFYING?
Living in a house. That might have solved a lot of problems. Or a dishwasher. I don't know...this year was alright.

32. HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR PERSONAL FASHION CONCEPT IN 2004?
More hats, less fluff.

33. WHAT KEPT YOU SANE?
Videogames, my friends, my family.

34. WHICH CELEBRITY/PUBLIC FIGURE DID YOU FANCY THE MOST?
Fancy? Hmmm...Eva Longoria I fancied one way, while Barack Obama I fancied in completely other, less lust-filled, ways.

35. WHAT POLITICAL ISSUE STIRRED YOU THE MOST?
No Child Left Behind. Just like every year since its inception. STUPID NCLB.

36. WHO DID YOU MISS?
Santiago, Andy-man, my family, Tanishia (for a little bit, anyway), Kristine (I LIVE IN THE SAME TOWN AND STILL NEVER SEE HER)

37. WHO WAS THE BEST NEW PERSON YOU MET?
Crystal? Probably Crystal.

38. TELL US A VALUABLE LIFE LESSON YOU LEARNED IN 2005:
Being happy with one's self is the best way to be. Or something to do with pie.

39. QUOTE A SONG LYRIC THAT SUMS UP YOUR YEAR.
"If you wrote me off, I'd understand it, cause I've been on some other planet. So come pick me up, I've landed."

What a weird week. The past seven days have been exhausting, for multiple reasons. I got sick! GROSS! The Huskers won! AWESOME. I hung out with Andyman and Kristine. WOO!

Xbox 360....next week...I shall have one, even though Gamers is trying to screw me (reservation number 24, they're only receiving 20 systems launch day...screw you hippies!). I haven't been this excited about a console launch since the Dreamcast (here's hoping the 360 does better than the DC did, overall).

I'm also getting excited for the Pomeroy DVD release show (cannot wait, actually) and Thanksgiving. The days are looking up!

Random ramblings...

So, this weekend was a pretty fun time. It mostly involved going out (shock!) and drinking (awe!) but I do feel the need to highlight last night.

Last night was my friend Allison's wedding. A bunch of my former RA staff and myself made the pilgrimage to Exeter, NE for the reception. It was a fairly good time which involved us sneaking in beer and listening to the Nebraska game on the radio (23-14, bitches! :) While I was there, I began thinking to myself about the crazy fact that someone who is in my peer group...someone YOUNGER than me...had just gotten married. I like to pretend that the single life is great (and for the most part, it isn't an act. I really do like being single.) but sometimes I wonder if I'll ever get to that point with someone. That point where there are no doubts about the relationship. Where getting married isn't just a good idea, it would be illogical to NOT get married. Perhaps a re-evaluation of my priorities is in order (could Brett stop pushing away all available girls? News at eleven...)

I did, however, have a great time. It was great seeing my RA cohorts again, and I have vowed to not be such a stranger with them. In particular, I had a great time with Vai. We have a running gag (at least, I think it's a gag) with each other that states that if she doesn't get a job, I'll marry her so she can stay in the states. So, the whole night I called her woman and told her that she had to learn her role before we got married. Her responses basically stated that I had no idea about anything and that if someone was going to be whipped, it would not be her. Good times.

Ok. Short, sweet update:

I do not, nor will I ever, understand women. I think that I'm falling for someone who I *cannot* fall for. No good. None whatsoever. She is, of course, not helping the situation.

Other tidbits:

Nebraska football. Saturday. Thank god.

Kanye West's new album. Thank god.

I actually like the new Black Eyed Peas song. It's funny.

Also, WoW has consumed me again. Dammit.

I'm not a biter, I'm a writer for myself and others...

Updates! Get your updates here!

Ok. This is a long coming update, so let's dispense with the pleasantries (at this point, I assume you are doing alright if you are bothering to read this).

As was promised in an earlier update, Brett's thoughts on various media:

"Guero" by Beck
-It's really, really good. While some have said that this represents a step backwards for Beck artistically, I would counter that said persons should listen to the album again. Upon first listen, it is very much in the vein of "Odelay", it's true. However, I feel that this album has more of a range than "Odelay" did (I'm not saying it is better) and I personally am always up for a journey with Beck. And if it happens to be less depressing than "Sea Change"...so be it.

"Songs for Silverman" by Ben Folds
-Oh my. To be fair, I don't think I can be completely objective with Ben. His music has been such an integral part of my life for so long that all rational criticism jumps out the window. For me to slam a Ben album, it would have to be such a steaming pile of crap that any sane man would never listen to it more than once. That being said... it's a great album that is somewhat in the vein of Ben Folds Five's "Unauthorized Biography..." album. I like the fact that Ben has gone back to his more piano/bass/drums motif and I think that some of the songs have some of his best instrumentation to date. If there's one gripe I have about it, it would be that there isn't a "rocking" song on it. Call me sentimental, but I long for a "One Angry Dwarf and 200 Solemn Faces" style rock song.

Jade Empire for Xbox
-I am not as in love with this game as I was a couple weeks ago. I got distracted and stopped playing it and now, having returned to it...I'm seeing some of the glaring faults in its game design. I think the main problem is the simplification the game got...everything is automatic and quick and therefore, shallow. It's still fun, and it has a good story...but I'm not as down with it as I was at first.

Moving on...

Apartment life is good. Bryan's a kickass roommate. Having someone who can quote Family Guy as much as me or understand when I walk around singing "America...FUCK YEAH!" is something to be treasured. Sarah seems distant lately, but I'm hoping this is just a mood. She's too fun for this.

Our neighbors are the devil's spawn. They have bunches of kids, litter all over our yard, and leave dirty diapers on the front porch. I'm not a fan of them at all.

Finally,
My dog was put down last week. That sucked more than I thought it would. A LOT MORE. Having a dog for thirteen years means that the attachment gets reallllly strong. I miss Snickers, even though I didn't see him as much since I came to college.

And...I'm outta here!

Now nothing's adding up, and nothing's making sense...

I have never felt as completely exhausted as I do right now. The week is still fairly young, and I only want it over (and it is only going to get more hectic). C'est la vie.

I have finished my one final, and one of the papers that I have to have done. Only a paper re-write and then RA check-outs stand between me and freedom. THANK GOD. I am so burnt out on UNL at this point...I need something of a break (even if said summer break will incorporate a class, *sigh*).

Other news: I got a job. I actually got it a while back, but I wasn't sure if I would keep it. However, I really dig the place. It is a daycare (shock! awe!), but not in the vein of Trinity. This place is a lot more upscale and fun. I get paid a lot better (I make 2 dollars an hour more...starting!) and the people seem to actually not be complete nutcases. Anyway, the name of the place is The Ivy League Child Development Center and it is very far from where I live (as in, past Highway 2...over 4 miles away).

Tonight is Vaishali's birthday thing. I'm supposed to go, but to be frank, I am tired and a little on the poor side. Also, since the party is Saturday, it's not like I won't have a chance to get my drink on with her before she takes off for London.

Speaking of the party: This Saturday @ 9 at the apartment. The apartment is 1535 S. 22nd St. Show up, get sloshed, be merry.

Finally, I made the musical discovery of the year (for myself). Aesop Rock. This guy is amazing. Check his video for "Fast Cars, Danger, Fire, and Knives". I'm surprised as I thought my discovery this year was either The Arcade Fire or The Shins...but this guy kicks their asses.

Well, I'm tired and need to work on moving the remaining crap that fills my dorm over to the apartment (OMG. APARTMENT!).

Whoa. I've been alternately horrible when it comes to my updates, but this recent spate of non-posting has come to its end! HA!

So much has been happening that I think I will just do a few bullets. Lame, I know (also read: lazy) but I should honestly be working on my thematic unit.

I went home this weekend and gave my car a deep clean. It is so nice looking agin, I kinda feel bad about letting it get ugly.

We move into the apartment this weekend. Or at least I do (I'm unsure if the roommates will be doing it this weekend or next). I have to tell Bryan or Sarah to call the electric people and the cable company because I just don't feel like doing it.

One of the elevators is broken. Uncool!

Party! May 7th! WOOOO

Halo 2 has new maps tomorrow. OMFG!!!111one

I might not pass my classes this semester. Uh, yeah. Dunno what to say about that except "Eep!"

A more thorough update (which will include my thoughts on the new Beck album, the new Ben Folds album, and Jade Empire for Xbox) is forthcoming.

"Don't make fun of me for my hobbies, I don't make fun of you for being an asshole."

A mild update today kids, as I really should be doing lots and lots of homework. Procrastination is an art, and one that I have cultivated throughout college until it has manifested itself into the beautiful thing that it is right now.

So, this past weekend. What a blur. I can't get into really specific details (as I promised some individuals) but I will say that Saturday night involved lots and lots of alcohol and some people (not me, dear readers) got a little bit sexual in front of the entire world. Thankfully, by the time this transpired I had passed out on a couch. *shudder*

This week promises to be busy. I have a test tomorrow, as well as a presentation. GREAT! Wednesday...interview day! Here's hoping I'm hired quickly. Saturday is "The Office" marathon at Andy's apartment, and I am going to try to make that as it seems like I haven't seen that guy in nearly a decade.

That's really about it, kids. I am about to run over to Jason's to steal his Shel Silverstein books (for my presentation tomorrow) and then I will be doing homework until the (butt)crack of dawn! WOO.

Updates! Updates! These updates are EXTREME!

So...it's been a while. Lots has been happening. I'm excited.

First, and most important....I AM MOVING OFF CAMPUS.

I'm actually gonna restate that:

I AM MOVING OFF CAMPUS.

This is so huge (I've been living on campus for four years!). I'm living with Bryan (Jason's little brother, one of the coolest kids I've ever met) and Sarah (good friend). The place we really like (and hopefully, after tomorrow, will be ours) is this huge apartment that is really cheap. It's in great condition and would be perfect for us. I have to call the landlord and see if he'll hold it until May for us (most other places were willing to do this if we gave a security deposit, so I have high hopes) and if so, it's ours.

Other news:

Spring Break, 2005 style. I am going to California! And Las Vegas. To be fair, I will going out in a car (boo!) but I will be seeing my two cousins that live on the coast (yay!). I'm heading out with three guys so we are driving straight through so that should be interesting. So, come Saturday, I will be heading out to where it is warm. What this means, however, is that I must do lots of laundry beforehand. Yuck.

And finally, a glimpse as to what Brett has been reading:

The Book List

This book was amazing, funny, and a reminder of why I love narrative non-fiction.

Great read. Trashy, pulpy fiction at its best. I loved the fact that, since this is the illustrated edition, I got to see all the artwork he was referencing.

Scariest. Book. EVAR.

So, it's January 11th (technically), so I figure it's time for my very own "Best of 2004" list. This list will actually be pretty short because I'm only doing my top 5's in the categories. Yay me!

Favorite Films of 2004

5. Team America: World Police I loved this movie. I loved how timely it was and I love how irreverant it was towards both sides of the political landscape. And honestly, the puppet sex scene was worth the price of admission.
Killer scene: The puppet sex scene

4. Spider-man 2 Now this is what I want from a live-action superhero film. I want heart. I want a protagonist that is compelling, and I want a villain that is bad-ass (but not overused [DareDevil, I'm looking at you]).
Killer scene: The elevated train fight.

3. The Incredibles It's funny, really. Every time that Pixar puts out a movie, they show how much farther ahead of Dreamworks PDI they really are. This movie had the best action set-pieces of the year, animated or otherwise.
Killer scene: Edna Mode. Anything with her in it.

2. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind I was sold on this film before I saw it (anything that Charlie Kauffman writes will at least be viewed by me) and I was very impressed. By touching on a very universal topic (love), Kauffman and Gondry made a film that I think is one of the most realistic depictions of love ever on film.
Killer scene: The instant that Joel decides he doesn't want to lose his memories of Clementine.

1. Garden State I wouldn't have seen this film if it wasn't for drewmg, so he gets a shout out. I fell in love with this movie the first time I saw it, and I really think Zach Braff is as close to a genius as one gets in Hollywood.
Killer scene: The morning after the party with the "Fast Food Knight".

Honorable Mentions:
Napoleon Dynamite
Ali G INDAHOUSE (technically 2003, but I only saw it this year)
Harry Potter and the Prizoner of Azkaban
Kill Bill Vol. 2
Hellboy

Favorite Games of 2004 - Fewer explanations here. Why? I'm lazy.

5. Burnout 3: Takedown for Xbox The sense of speed even beat F-Zero GX

4. Sid Meier's Pirates! for PC YARRRRRRR!

3. The Sims 2 for PC

2. Ninja Gaiden for Xbox So hard, so pretty, so fun!

1. Halo 2 for Xbox Duh.

Favorite Albums of 2004 - No explanations here!

5. Contraband by Velvet Revolver

4. The College Dropout by Kanye West

3. With The Lights Out by Nirvana

2. Good News For People Who Love Bad News by Modest Mouse

1. Fly or Die by N.E.R.D.

Favorite Books of 2004

I can't order these. I loved or learned something from every book.

America: The Book by Jon Stewart and the Daily Show
The 9/11 Commission Report
Under the Banner of Heaven by Jon Krakauer

So...that's my list of what I thought was the bomb-diggity in 2004. And I lied, it still wasn't short.

...like slow-spinning redemption...

Oh man. Fun breaks tend to equal next to no posting for me. Not that a whole lot has been happening, but hey...I can pretend, right?

So, yesterday I got an e-mail from a certain ex-girlfriend. And, it is official kids: She's crazy. She's getting married. I don't have much of a comment there, really. I just found it to be funny that she needed to alert me of the fact. Really, I'm somewhat stumped as to why my opinion matters so much to her. So, I did the only nice thing I could think of and kept it to myself.

So, Christmas and New Year's were both good holidays this year. It was nice not having to really worry about anyone's enjoyment of these holidays but mine. I forgot how nice that really is. Plus, I had no apologizing to do to anyone when I was crunk. And by crunk I mean completely not sober.

So, Modest Mouse is coming to Omaha! I'm going with my friend Kristine. Santiago might also make an appearance. And anyone else who I can drag along. The more the merrier, I always say. Plus the tickets are ridiculously cheap. Which makes me a happy kid.

I don't really have any exciting stories for anyone. I'm back on Cather 6. I stepped down from the ARD position, and have resumed the RA life. I like it better already.

Meteors!

I saw a meteor shower last night. Kristine notified me of it and took me to go see it! She had to go to bed early, however, because she is kinda sad so I went and got Jenna and we watched some more meteors. They were amazing! And green! I liked it a lot (it was the first time I've done that).

I've been trying to get my nerves up over EA buying the NFL rights exclusively, but I just can't. I don't care. Madden is always better than the 2K series (I even bought only the 2K game this year, and I can say that Madden is better). I guess I really don't play NFL games enough to care. Now...this happens with my NCAA and I might get a bit more worked up.

So...It's time for a shower (yay for finals week!) and then some office hours (boo!).
